What has the Oaks Ministry been doing? Good Question!
Since Media Mennonite Church agreed to let The Oaks Ministry lease an old farmhouse on their property April 2015 we have been very busy restoring the house to get it ready for women in need. It is our desire to have this home open for residents by January 1st, 2016. The outside has been completely restored and looks like God had revealed to me it would “a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor”. Every time I pull into the lane and see that house I am reminded of our awesome God and how much he cares for the wounded, the broken and the weary and my heart cries for them too. (Isaiah 61:1-3)
Today we are busy re-doing the inside of the house. We have replaced most of the plastered ceilings with drywall and the painting has begun. It makes me a little nervous to go inside the house and see spray guns spraying primer everywhere, I’m trusting God that when they are finished, it will be beautiful as this house belongs to Him. It is His vision we are just HIS vessels carrying out His will for such a time as this.
God has supplied many professional people to help with this project. Every person he sends our way is very special to us. They seem to capture the vision and move forward full steam ahead. We give thanks to Wayne Lefever our contractor, Brad Duvall our exterior painter, Steve Howell our drywall man, Brian Little our electrician, Summers & Zim’s Joe Henderson our heating and plumbing specialist, Gary Robinson of G&F Flooring and our newly hired Jim Anderson for all our interior painting needs. We also thank Rick Howell for helping us get our web site up and running. We thank Stoltzfus Farm Service and the people at Sherwin Williams store in North East, MD for their generous supply of paint, We thank Pepsi Co company for very generous donations of products to sell/share at our events. We thank Myron and Sally Stoltzfus of Stoltzfus Meats for their generous donation of whoopee pies and our local Herrs for donating lots of chips and how can I forget Martin’s Appliance in Quarryville for their huge discount on a new refrigerator. We thank Cash n Carry in Quarryville for supplying the Oaks House with 7 new ceiling fans, and we also thank Steve, owner of Colora Orchards, for a generous supply of Apples to hand out at the Apple Festival in Oxford. We thank Nickel Mines Flooring for their offer to install the flooring that was donated. Last but not least we thank Lowes in Northeast for their discount on Lighting Fixtures. So as you can see it takes many hands to make it work and God has supplied just what we need at just the right time. God is so good!!! We also give a special thanks to all the volunteers God has sent our way. To numerous to mention. Without your help we could not move forward….God knows your names and he will reward each one of them for their faithfulness.
I also thank God for the wonderful Board of Directors he has provided to help with this ministry. Judy Lagasse, Kathy Ayers, and Greg Gouty. We have all been very busy lining up the above contractors and purchasing the supplies needed to start a home for women in need. We have worked hard to get all the information together for a website. Never in my wildest imagination did we realize what all is involved to get a ministry like this up and running but God faithfully leads us one step at a time to fulfill this holy purposes. The saying “God does not always call the qualified, He qualifies the called” has become very real to us. “When God guides, He provides” has also proven to be true and “When God calls He equips”. With much humility we praise HIM and give glory to HIM for He truly is Lord of this ministry and of our lives. To think that He chose us reveals to us that God often chooses the weak things of this world to display His power. I was just reminded today by a dear friend, not to get so busy doing kingdom work that I forget the King. I ask that you continue to keep this Board and ministry in your prayers as we still have much to do and strive to keep everything balanced and always that we keep the KING first place in our lives.
We have many fund raisers planned, check out “upcoming events” and we ask that you prayerfully consider supporting us with your prayers and your finances. We are working very hard to raise the $50,000 it will take to keep this ministry alive in 2016 and we are trusting that our awesome God will continue to provide. He has not disappointed us yet. The doors to the first Oaks House will open January 1st, Lord willing if we have our budgeted amount for 2016 in our ministry account.
Please be in prayer about the hiring of a “Residential House Manager” to live with the ladies in house and manage it. We now have a Job Description and Responsibility document to share with those that are interested in applying for this position. Pass the word along.
