I can’t believe that it is August already and its been a little over a month since I retired from my full-time position as Palliative/End of Life Care Chaplain at Pocopson Home. When I started working at Pocopson 23 years ago, I never thought about retirement, pensions, social security. At that time I just wanted a little extra spending money. Funny how life changes and how God sees the whole picture and provides for His children so we can not only help with our own personal needs but puts us in a position to help others in need as well.
Even though I do miss the special people at the “resort” as we lovingly call it, I know that at this time in my life God has enabled me to retire, with a monthly income, so that I can devote more time to my family, my home and to this ministry.
As of today our homes are at full capacity but that can change when we least expect it. We are accepting applications and going through the interview process so when a space becomes available we can review our applicants and choose the one we believe is most likely to succeed. This is a good place to be. Having said that our Board is looking for a third Christian home to have available for women in need of a place to live while actively working toward financial stability and most importantly learning to know and love Jesus Christ.
This past year we have continued to learn how to best serve the women in our program by providing professional, licensed, mental health counselors that our residents meet with bi-weekly. In addition Herrs Incorporated has generously provided another vehicle for our residents to use for interviews, work, and ministry related activities. This is a huge blessing to our ministry and we thank Herrs for their support. We have also began advertising on WDAC 94.5FM a local Christian Radio station. Our Marketing Director and our Communications Specialist suggested we do this to get our name out. You can hear our ads consistently on Wednesdays, at 9:30AM and 4:30PM in addition to a few other times throughout the day.
On another note we are looking for someone to help our Sewing Class Instructor once a week on Thursdays from 10-12 noon. For more information call Jannett at 610-444-9746. In addition we are also looking for a Financial Advisor for Oaks 1. This person is responsible to oversee our three residents finances and help them to make wise financial decisions. For more information, call Robin at 484-368-7268,therefore if you are looking for opportunities to volunteer with us we would love to talk to you.
We are currently planning our 2nd Annual Harvest of Blessings Fundraising Brunch to be held on October 5th at Mt. Vernon Christian Church. Please “Save the Date” so you can come to hear more about this ministry, ways to help the ministry, in addition to your financial support. We will be looking for table sponsors so please give this some consideration. More details to follow…
It takes many people to do what we do and we all are important no matter what role we play. Our Board continually thanks God for each one of you. We recognize that together we can make a difference in the lives of others.
In God We Trust…
Robin Martin, President
